Easter Holiday Camp, April 2026 for children in years 1 to 6: You can book via your Arbor account

NEW Morning Fitness Club Years 3-6 – Starting in the Summer Term 8.00 – 8.45am (Breakfast is NOT included!) A new opportunity for some morning exercise! In the Summer term Flora will run the fitness club on a Monday and Friday mornings from 8.00am to 8:45am. The Fitness Club is open to children in Years 3–6. It’s a great opportunity for children to wake up their bodies and begin the school day feeling active and ready to learn.

Refilling Pencil Cases for the Summer Term - The children will come home from school today with their pencil cases. We politely ask that you check them and make sure that they have all they need for their learning. Please would you also take the time to label your child’s things. Sellotape and paper will do the job brilliantly. When things are labelled, we can return lost items quickly. We also kindly ask that you do not let your children bring in additional items such as staplers, calculators, tippex, felt tips or gel pens.

Administering Medicine during the school day

We are bound by the Local Authority regulations, which seek to exclude any drugs from school premises unless absolutely necessary. This means that any antibiotics taken three times a day should be administered before school, at the end of the school day and at bedtime. Should a child have to take antibiotics four times a day or have other medication during the school day as specifically instructed by the GP, we are happy to administer this medicine. However, before we do so, parents must provide consent and complete the Administering Medicine form. Medication should be provided in the original packaging, with the child’s name, giving clear administering instructions.

Nursery

For parents in receipt of 30 hours Nursery funding, please remember to renew your 11-digit eligibility code before the start of the summer term in order to secure continuation of your funding. HMRC sends e-mail reminders to all eligible parents and carers, so please follow through.

Year 1

Flamingo class – Monday, 13th April – Parent/Teacher meeting at 3.00pm in the classroom – We are looking forwards to introducing Miss Kamal who will be teaching in Flamingo class in the Summer term.

Design and Technology project - We have an exciting Design and Technology project coming up after the Easter break: designing and creating our own safe boxes. In the first week back, we will be discussing the properties and purpose of various boxes / containers and we would be grateful if each child could bring a box / container packaging (e.g.: for food, toys, shoes, egg boxes, packages etc...) into class by Tuesday 14th April 2026. Please note, we will be disassembling these containers. Thank you so much.

Year 4

Donations of Board or Card Games - In Year 4, we are currently developing a board game curriculum to support pupils’ learning across a range of areas, including communication skills, strategic thinking, teamwork, and resilience. Board games provide a fun and engaging way for children to practise turn-taking, problem-solving, and positive social interaction. To help us build a varied and exciting collection of games for the classroom, we would be very grateful for any donations of board or card games you may no longer use at home. We are particularly interested in games such as Uno, Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, Articulate, Bananagrams, Ubongo, Battleships, Shut the Box, Connect 4, Draughts, Chess, Guess Who, Backgammon, Scrabble, Forbidden Island, Outfoxed!, and Dobble. All donations, whether new or gently used (with all pieces included), would be greatly appreciated and put to good use by the children. If you are able to contribute, please send any donations into school with your child. Should you have any questions, feel free to get in touch. Thank you very much for your continued support.

Wednesday, 15th April 2026 – Year 5 trip to the Science Museum
Robin Class – Swimming will start on Thursday, 16th April 2026 for Robin class. The children will need to take with them: *A one-piece swimming costume (girls), tight shorts (boys) - no boardshorts or loose swimming shorts are allowed in the pool. *A swimming hat - children will not be able to swim without one *Goggles (optional but recommended); *A towel; *Please put these items inside a suitable, labelled bag.

Parents, please be reminded NO mobile phone use on the school premises at all before and after school. We want you to set the best example for our children – be present for them at these important times.

Breakfast Club

We strongly recommend that you walk your children to the door of breakfast club in the mornings rather than leaving them at the school gates (this applies to older children as well). The site is not supervised early in the morning. Please also be reminded that you will not be able to come in for Breakfast club until 8.00am.

Bringing in items late to school

If there is an item that you or your child has forgotten (such as water bottles, clothing, bags, books, musical instruments, lunch or snacks, etc.) can these please be brought to the office NO LATER than 9.30am. Taking items to classrooms during school hours disturbs teaching and learning, as well as the office.

Food Waste

We’re working with the North London Waste Authority this year to reduce waste at school, with a big focus on food waste. Attached to the email sent out there is some important information about how you can help reduce food waste at home – and details of a competition that the children can enter. They should bring their posters to school and ask their teachers to give them to Mrs Greene - not post them on social media, as the video says.

Thanks for your help to reduce food waste!

Community Gardening – All Welcome! - Wednesday, 18th March, 3:45pm – 4:30pm

Who: Parents/Carers/Grandparents/Staff and up to two children - adults must stay to supervise the children

Waste to Wonder Day

Please make sure your child brings to school a plastic bag (thin kind from a supermarket) by Wednesday, 18th March at the latest. Wednesday, 18th March: Swift Class – going to Pizza Express, 9.30am – 11.00am. Children will need to arrive to school at 8.30am, as we will be leaving promptly at 8.45am. Thank you.

Some of our families may be entitled to Free School Meals funding (FSM), which can be used by the school to pay for additional support such as extra tuition, mentoring or after school activities etc. The school would receive this funding as Pupil Premium Funding. Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to explain our decision to use the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for basketball rather than football during break and lunchtime.

This decision has been made carefully, with the children’s safety and well being as our main priority. Football on the MUGA is very fast-paced, which can increase the likelihood of collisions and falls. By using the space for basketball instead, the game is slower and contact is reduced making play safer. The grass also provides a softer landing, helping to reduce the risk of injury should children slide or dive.

We have also found that football in this particular space has sometimes led to a higher number of disagreements and overly competitive or aggressive incidents between children. Changing the use of the MUGA supports a calmer, more positive play environment for everyone.

Importantly, this does not reduce football opportunities. Children are now able to wear wellies to access the field throughout the year, allowing them to continue enjoying games of football in a more suitable space. In addition, thanks to the generous donations from parents, we are currently planning to build a football skills wall to further enhance football provision and provide structured opportunities for all children to develop their skills.

We remain committed to offering a broad range of active play opportunities while ensuring that play times are safe, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.

X Table Rockstars

Please note that the school subscription has been renewed for years 1 - 6. You can access the platform with your existing password. Please use this fun platform to help children learn and develop their times tables fluency and speed. Remember to set a limit on use. We would recommend 5 minutes practice daily rather than half hour periods or more.

Uniform

Please note, children are not allowed to wear baseball caps to school. This is because they have a hard peak which could cause injury to the wearer if they had an accident, or someone else if there is a collision. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

We have noticed a number of children wearing jumpers that do not in any way meet our expectations or guidelines around school uniform. Often these are logoed sports tops that. Children who are not wearing appropriate tops will be asked to replace it with a clean, second-hand item from our unclaimed lost property.

Please note, children should be wearing blue jumpers/Coldfall logo jumpers every day including PE days.

Royal Academy young artists competition

We encourage our budding Coldfall artists aged 4 and above to submit an artwork to the Young Artists Summer show. Parents can submit their child's artworks online here: https://youngartists.royalacademy.org.uk/

Halliwick Rec Official Opening Ceremony

The ceremony takes place on Sunday 8 February, 2.00–3.30pm, and will be attended by the Mayor of Barnet, local councillors, and families from across the area. Kompan, who designed and built the playground, will be there with a raffle and free children’s goodie bags. Please go along if you would like to.

Royal Academy young artists competition

Sport

After our success in becoming the first Haringey schools Games champions last academic year, as well as our continued sporting achievements, we are putting together a week to celebrate sport. During the week we will aim to accumulate 10,000 hours of participation opportunities for children, staff and parents. The aims for the week, to be held in the Summer term, are:

-To celebrate our achievement in being the Haringey Champions

- To spark the children’s interest in sports they haven’t previously considered

- For the school community to come together, and have fun being active

A practical 1-hour session to help parents of school-age children understand how online radicalisation happens and how to keep young people safe. We would like to clarify our rules around watches at Coldfall Primary School. Children are welcome to wear watches as long as they are not connected to phones and cannot send or receive messages, make calls, take photos, or play games.

Fitbits are allowed, provided they follow the same rules.

As a school, we always recommend analogue watches, as these help children learn to tell the time—an important life skill that supports their learning in class.

Sport

After our success in becoming the first Haringey schools Games champions last academic yea, as well as our continued sporting achievements, we are putting together a week to celebrate sport. During the week we will aim to accumulate 10,000 hours of participation opportunities for children, staff and parents. The aims for the week, to be held in the Summer term, are:

Attached is the schedule for when the children need to read each of the books by. A paper copy was also given to the children. If you did not order your books from the school, you can still buy the set at the discounted price at Muswell Hill Children’s Bookshop, or Pickled Pepper books in Crouch End. We have had a huge uptake this year of children wanting to take part. Please remember that your child will only be chosen to attend the awards ceremony if they read all of the books and attend the book clubs.

Times Tables

The children in Y4 have spent the past seven weeks of term learning and practising their times tables. Many of them are not yet fully secure on all of these important facts and it is really important that you keep on practising these at home. If the children do not practise with you at home, then they are likely to forget them. There have been some games shared to google classroom that you could use to practise these. Additionally, if you were to search for ‘Coldfall’ on Kahoot! You could find some interactive quizzes that we played in class that the children really enjoyed.

Pencil Cases

Your child’s class teacher will have sent your child home with their pencil case (Y1-Y6). Please could you take the time to look through these and restock them with anything that is missing. We are noticing that valuable learning time is being lost because children are having to search for or share glue sticks or to ask for pencils and pens (which the school only has a limited supply of). Please make sure that everything is named so that if it is not put away, we can give it back to your child.

What should be in a pencil case: 3 sharp penicils, a whiteboard pen, a selection of colouring pencils, a glue stick, a sharpener, a pair of scissors, 2 handwriting pens (Y4,5,6 only).

Come and help us clean up the streets near our school! Picking up litter protects local wildlife and marine life, as plastic items often end up in drains and eventually in the sea. We will provide litter pickers, gloves and bin bags for the first 30 who arrive.

School Street

Our new School Street SS50 Coldfall Primary launches on 1st December 2025 – Everington Road, Marriott Road, Steeds Road, Barringer Road and Hill Road. This will create a safer environment for children outside the school. Most vehicles will not be able to enter the School Street between 8:30 to 9:15 and 2:45 to 3:45pm during term time. Please look at ways to walk, scoot, cycle, wheel or use public transport to get to and from school.
Blue Badge Exemptions are available (contact School) if you or your child/ren have a disability. The School Street will benefit our children’s health and safety by reducing pollution and congestion at the school gate. Please support the scheme by considering active travel on the school run.

Meadow and Woodlands Education - Vote for us in Tesco!

Friends of Coldfall Woods are currently campaigning for a Tesco Stronger Starts Grant (voting in local stores) - so they can run sessions in the wildflower meadow for Coldfall Primary School and other local schools. Year 4 took part in an excellent session with them this term, sowing wildflower seeds and learning about biodiversity. Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to let you know that on Friday 21^st November 2025, we will be holding a Non-Uniform Day in support of UNICEF’s Hurricane Melissa Emergency Appeal for Jamaica.

To take part, we are asking children to donate £1, which will go directly towards helping those affected by the recent hurricane. Pupils are encouraged to wear their own clothes in the colours of yellow, green, and black to show solidarity and support for Jamaica.

We believe this will be a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together in aid of a meaningful cause, showing care and compassion for others in need.

Anywhere Book Club

We, at the Anywhere Book Club, want to reimagine how adults can support children’s literacy. In our experience as teachers (with over 30 years in schools between us), we know that many parents and carers are keen to help their child enjoy books, reading and writing but struggle to know exactly how to do this in a fun, manageable and purposeful way.

Our brief presentation discusses some of the barriers that children might face and offers advice and suggestions about how parents and carers can support their child’s literacy using our games that are quick, accessible and fit easily into busy family life. Anywhere Book Club activities are carefully designed not only to develop language skills, but also well-being and confidence and are aimed primarily at 6-10 year olds but can be adapted for both younger and older children.

After the presentation, there will be time to ask questions as well as a chance to purchase Anywhere Book Club products at a discounted price.

We hope you can join us on DATE / TIME / PLACE so we can help you spark a lifelong love of reading and writing in your children, through playing, talking and connecting – anywhere and anytime.

A reminder not to allow children to bring any sweets to school including for birthdays.

This is to help instil the importance of healthy food choices, reduce litter, reduce the amount of time and administration staff have to do around allergies etc and to help engender a love of reading and playing board games. Community Gardening

Bring your children to our next Community Gardening session after school with Mrs Greene, and plant some Spring bulbs to take home! This is a chance to garden with other families and children in a relaxed and informal setting – it’s completely free, and all are welcome! Thank you to Friends of Coldfall for supporting this programme. This will be the final session of the season and we will resume in Spring.

Wednesday, 22nd October – Year 1 will be making sock puppets for their D&T project this term. Parent volunteers will be welcomed into the school from 1.15pm-2.45pm to help the children cut, stick and create their fabulous sock puppets. Year 4

Monday, 20th - Roman Feast and Mosaic Making - children can come to school dressed in Roman-style clothing, if they wish. You can use items that you already have at home to create simple Roman-inspired outfits.

Anywhere Book Club Event - Friday, 14th November at 9am – Staffroom

We, at the Anywhere Bok Club, want to reimagine how adults can support children’s literacy. In our experience as teachers (with over 30 years in schools between us), we know that many parents and carers are keen to help their child enjoy books, reading and writing but struggle to know exactly how to do this in a fun, manageable and purposeful way.

Our brief presentatin discusses some of the barriers that children might face and offers advice and suggestins about how parents and carers can support their child’s literacy using our games that are quick, accessible and fit easily into busy family life. Anywhere Book Club activities are carefully designed not only to develop language skills, but also well-being and confidence and are aimed primarily at 6–10-year-olds but can be adapted for both younger and older children.
After the presentatin, there will be time to ask questions as well as a chance to purchase Anywhere Book Club products at a discounted price.

Year 4 Roman Feast and Mosaic Making - Monday 20th October

We will be rounding off the children's learning about the Romans with a Roman Feast and Mosaic Making Afternoon on Monday 20th October.

To make the day even more special, children are welcome to come to school dressed in Roman-style clothing. Please note that dressing up is entirely optional, and we would strongly encourage using items you already have at home to create simple Roman-inspired outfits.

We are looking forward to a fun and creative afternoon celebrating everything the children have learned about the Romans!

OPAL Homework – October: We have decided to ask our children and families to undertake a special OPAL homework each month. This is instead of an English or a Maths homework and is intended to encourage our children and families into natural spaces and the environment. Use fallen leaves to create your own piece of artwork and think about colour, pattern or shape. You could be inspired by the examples shown here, or come up with your own ideas. Have fun, and please take a photo to upload to your class’s google classroom. We’ll share some of the best examples on our Instagram account in November.

Bringing in items late to school: If there is an item that you or your child has forgotten at home (like water bottles, clothing, bags, books, musical instruments, lunch or snacks, ets.) can these please be brought to the office NO LATER than 9.30am. Taking items to classrooms during school hours disturbs teaching and learning, as well as the office, so please try to limit dropping things off after school has started. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thursday, 9th October: Racial Equity Coffee Morning, 9.00am in the Staffroom. All welcome!

Happy ‘ShoesDay’ – Tuesday, 30th September

October is Walk to School Month, and to kick this off, we will be having a Happy ‘ShoesDay’ on Tuesday, 30th September. Children can wear their favourite shoes to school – shoes that make them happy (no heels please) – to celebrate walking. Please encourage your children to walk/scoot/cycle to school as much as possible in October. Thank you!

Instrumental Lessons

If your child has instrumental or vocal lessons in school it may be necessary for them to miss part of their break or lunch time to attend their lesson. Children will never be asked to miss the part of lunch when they are eating. This should only happen once or twice a term and will be organised on rotation. Instrumental teachers will explain this to their pupils; it would also be helpful if you could also explain this to your children.

Before and After School Provision - Bookings

Thank you to all the parents and carers who book their chid/children’s wrap around provision on Arbor before the booking window closes.

We would like to remind all other parents and carers that the booking window for Breakfast club is open until 7.30am on the day and the Afterschool provision is open for bookings until 12.00 noon on the day. You can book ad-hoc for the day, for the week or the month. Please make sure that you book on time as the office is not able to make late bookings for you. You will need to top-up before you can book. All top-ups must be done specifically for the club that you want. Thank you.

Pick up from Activity clubs and Night Owls (After school provision) – Late Pick-Up

Thank you to all the parents and carers that pick up their children on time from our after-school provisions. We would like to remind parents and carers, that there is a charge of £5 for every 5 minutes that parents/carers are late in picking up. Please also be reminded that we reserve the right to withdraw the after-school provision for any persistent late pick-ups.

Wellies REQUIRED for Green School

If your child is in Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 3 or Year 4 then they MUST have a pair of named wellies which they keep at school for their Green School lessons. This is compulsory - and just as important as their PE kit. We go out even in wet weather, and if children don’t have wellies, they bring a lot of mud into the school, which is a safety hazard. Wellies are waterproof and quick to put on and take off, so better than old shoes. If you are not able to provide wellies for your child, please speak to your child’s class teacher and we will see what we can do to help. Thank you.

We would like to invite year 1 parents and carers to STAY and PLAY at 9.00am on Tuesday, 30th of September. Friday, 3rd October at 2.00pm: All year 1 grandparents are invited to their grandchild’s classroom to support our History Learning about toys form the past. Bring a toy from your own childhood if you still have one! For those grandparents unable to attend, you are very welcome to upload a photo on Google Classroom from your childhood or a short video showing a game that you used to play, which we will share with the class.

Year 3

Recorders - The order for recorders has now been placed. It is no longer possible to order a recorder through the school. if your child does not have a recorder and you have not purchased one through the school, please ensure you do so. The recorders are due for delivery at the beginning of October and Miss Vetch will be distributing these during the children’s music lesson. Children should then be bringing their recorder with them to school for their lesson on a Friday; they are welcome to keep their recorders in their tray, if they wish.

We have an upright piano that needs to be moved from an upstairs classroom to the Lower Hall. This would be a job for a professional moving company due to the weight and placement of the piano. Instrumental Lessons

Instrumental lessons will begin over the next few weeks depending on instrument. If your child has lessons organised through Haringey Music Service (piano, violin, guitar, drums) your child’s teacher will contact you directly to let you know their start date. If your child has singing, woodwind or brass lessons organised through school we will contact you to let you know when your child will be starting lessons. There is no need to contact the school regarding lesson start dates.

Pencil Cases

Coldfall Recipe Book

Please find attached a recipe book ‘Love Food, Love Your Planet’ containing recipes contributed by the children to make something delicious from food that might otherwise go to waste.

We are trying to reduce food waste at school (and home) as throwing away food is very bad for the planet, and we invited the children to send in suggestions for how to do this. We hope you’ll enjoy their recipes and perhaps try some of them over the summer!

Head Lice

We continue to have several cases of head lice throughout the school. Please would you kindly check your child’s hair thoroughly over the weekend, and if necessary, treat them immediately to avoid further infection. You can treat head lice without seeing a GP, or you can speak to a pharmacist for a recommended treatment. You should check everyone in the house and start treating anyone who has head lice on the same day with ongoing weekly treatments for a duration of at least three weeks. Thank you.

Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about Fairtrade this term, exploring how it impacts communities around the world and supports ethical trade. To mark the end of this topic and the school year, we will be holding a Year 5 picnic on the school field on the afternoon of Thursday 17th July.

We would love each child to bring in a small item of food to share, which includes at least one Fairtrade ingredient. This can be something homemade or shop-bought, and may be either sweet or savoury.

Please note that this event will take place during the school day and is for students only. Parents are not invited to attend.

A few important reminders:
• All food must be nut free.
• If your child has a gluten intolerance or any other allergy or dietary need, they are welcome to bring something suitable for themselves.

Community Litter Pick – Coldfall Woods

Join us for another Community Litter Pick of Coldfall Woods! We are joining forces with other local schools to clean up our beautiful ancient woodland. We will have litter pickers for the first 30 people who arrive. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Date: Wednesday 25th June
Time: 3.45 – 4.30

Place: Meet by the gate from Coldfall Primary that goes directly into the woods (go down the footpath closest to school that leads from Everington Road into the woods, and you’ll see a blue fence on the left when you enter the woods – we’ll meet there)

Bring: A bag for your rubbish, gardening gloves if you have them.

Photo Day 11th June

Tuesday 11th June is class photo day! Please can children come in in their uniform polo shirts even if it is their PE day or Sports Day. They can bring a PE T shirt to change into. Sports day will not be affected by the photos.

It would be nice to take a photo of the Year 6 classes in their uniform and one in their hoodies if possible.

Dressing for the weather

As the weather is very up and down at the moment, please ensure children are dressed and prepared for the weather. Sun cream should be applied before school, and children should still bring a waterproof jacket to school in case of rain. We want children to be able to play outside even if it is a little wet. The children have been given their first book for the Summer book club: Rune. The Y6 Book Club will be on Monday 16th June at 1.15. The Y4 Book Club will be on Friday 20th at 1.15. Mrs Gardner will let the Y5 children know when their book club will be.

Italian Brainrot

‘Italian Brainrot’ are AI generated cartoon characters that are popular on TikTok, Youtube Shorts and games like Roblox. They include characters such as: Ballerina Cappuccina, Bombardiro Crocodilo and Tralalero Tralala. I’ve heard many children mention these names in the corridor.

We strongly advise that children do not watch 'Italian Brainrot' content, or only do so under your supervision with extreme caution. The characters and videos often include surreal, chaotic humour that may seem harmless but can contain offensive stereotypes, inappropriate language, or disrespectful portrayals of religion and culture—including Islam. While some of the content may appear silly or nonsensical, it can desensitise children to harmful ideas or make them repeat phrases without understanding their meaning or impact.

Year 2

As part of our geography curriculum, we will be learning about ‘What goes on at an airport and a train station?’ To bring this to life, we are organising an in-school Airport Day on Friday 13th June 2025. The children will participate in lots of activities in the classroom and playground to support their learning.

Children can wear ‘summer holiday’ shorts and t-shirts but sensible trainers/shoes. Please can they also bring a small item of luggage (backpack or small suitcase) as we will be making airport style luggage labels and checking in luggage for our flight!

There is no need to buy anything new for the day. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak with your class teacher.

To those who bought MC Grammar’s book Y4&6

As you may have seen on posters, MC Grammar is going to be the headline act of this years Summer Fair. The children will be able to see MC Grammar perform and there will be a meet and greet afterwards. I do have all of the books already signed by MC Grammar and will give these out in the week before he performs. If your child wants their book before then, please ask them to come and ask me (Mr Descrettes) for it. Please note you will still have to have tickets for the Summer Fair in order to attend.

Y4,5,6 Book Club/ Summer Term Reading Challenge

As said in the letter sent out this week, we have set a mini reading challenge for children in Y4, 5 and 6. If your child does want to take part in the challenge and buy the books through the school, then the books can be bought via the Arbor App. Please click on ‘School Shop’ rather than ‘Payments’ in order to purchase the book bundle. The deadline for this is the end of the school day on Thursday.

Year 2 have their exciting trip to Kew Gardens on Friday 23rd May. In order to get to Kew on time, we require all children to arrive at school at 8.45 am in full uniform. We will be travelling by coach to and from the gardens. Children will need to wear comfortable shoes, bring a packed lunch and a snack. Please pack the lunch in a rucksack that children can comfortably walk around with during the exhibition. Packed lunches must not contain nuts or any products containing nuts, sweets, fizzy drinks or glass bottles, they must have a bottle of water. Lastly, please ensure that they have sunscreen to protect them against the sun.

Coldfall and the RNLI

The RNLI (The Royal National Lifeboats Institution) will be visiting Coldfall on Friday 6th June to deliver some workshops in upper KS2 and to film some promotional material for their education campaigns. (Photo permission forms will be sent separately). We will be planning some whole school fundraising activities so that we can give them a donation on the day. If you or your children would like to take part in any additional fundraising for this worthwhile charity, you could consider taking part in the Mayday Challenge (walking/running/cycling one mile a day for the month of May) or planning your own sponsored event. Missing Scooter

Please see the attached photo of a scooter that has gone missing. If you have taken this scooter home by mistake, please bring it to the school office.

If you are leaving children’s bikes or scooters at school, please put your child’s name on it. We do not recommend leaving them over night or over the weekend. The school cannot accept responsibility for the loss or damage of bikes/scooters left at school.

Friends of Coldfall

The Friends of Coldfall second hand uniform sale will take place this Sunday 27th April, 10am-11am in the Lower Hall.

We can now claim gift aid on your uniform donations, giving us up to £2.75 extra for each £1 we raise! If you are happy for us to claim gift aid and can spare 1 minute, please fill out the quick Link to Gift Aid Declaration Form. Thank you.

Snacks

Any snacks brought to school should be fruit or veg only. Children in Years 1-6 do not need an afternoon snack unless they have an Activity Club after school.

Year 3

We are delighted to inform you that, to enrich all of our learning in Geography this half term, we have booked an exciting school trip to River Lee Country Park. Nightingale and Magpie classes will go on: Monday, 31st March Owl class will go on Friday, 4th April. We will be leaving the school grounds at 9am and travelling by coach then returning to school by the end of the school day, depending on traffic. Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time, thank you.

Music

All children in Year 4, 5 and 6 who are participating in the Carnegie Hall project with The Guildhall School of Music need to bring their instruments with them on Monday. Children who play a woodwind instrument will also need their instruments on Tuesday.

Coldfall Easter Holiday camp is designed to provide your child with a fun and enriching experience during the break!

Helpers needed! Please come along and join us for OPAL ‘get it done’ afternoon on Friday 21^st March from 3.45pm to 6pm. We will provide tea and cake in exchange for any help you can offer. We will be working on digging an area for the sandpit, building a scooter track, installing some musical instruments and generally making our playtimes even more fun for our children. You are welcome to bring your own children with you if they are able to help too!

World Book Day Celebrations: Friday 7th March

We can’t wait to see the children dressed up as their favourite book characters on Friday. We look forward to welcoming the Harry Potters, the Hermiones, the Gangsta Grannies, the Goldilocks, the wolves, and whoever else may walk through our doors! Opportunity to submit artworks – all year groups

Now in its seventh year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–18 studying in the UK. Artworks are judged by a panel of artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts. Submission is open until 5 March 2025. Coldfall Primary School is registered and parents can submit artworks on behalf of their children on the website. We have so many amazing artists in this school and encourage any of the children to submit an artwork they are particularly proud of.

Sweets

This is a reminder that children are not allowed to bring sweets, chocolate, biscuits etc into school. If any of the above are seen, they will be thrown away. This includes after school activities. Children should bring in fresh fruit and veg as snacks only.

Uniform

Children should wear either a Coldfall uniform fleece/cardigan/jumper with a logo or a blue fleece/cardigan/jumper to school every day, even on PE days. If your child comes to school wearing a non-uniform top as specified above, they will be given a jumper from lost property to wear.

Year 3 will be visiting Fortismere school for a theatre performance on Wednesday 26th February. As part of their GCSE project, the Theatre Studies students at Fortismere will be creating a short play based on our science curriculum all about skeletons, muscles and healthy eating.

Reception

We are excited to introduce woodwork to our children in the Early Years this term. Woodwork is popular with young children and provides a rich source of enjoyment as well as learning. It helps develop children’s imagination and creativity as well as practical skills. The impact is long term.

A full risk assessment has been carried out for woodwork activities and the children will be supervised at all times in a designated woodwork area. Only 4 children will be in the woodwork area at any time, accompanied by a member of staff. Woodwork is actually a low-risk activity when introduced and supervised correctly. It allows children to experience risk in a controlled situation, providing opportunities for making judgements and learning to self-risk assess.

Initially, children will be taught how to use the tools safely and will be given the opportunity to try techniques in appropriate ways. Once they have mastered basic skills, the children will move into open ended exploration, making unique creations for themselves.

We look forward to sharing the children’s new skills with you over the coming months.

Reporting absence

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, you must let the school know this by 9AM at the latest. Year Four

In PSHE this term, with Mrs Marshall, the children are learning about dreams and goals. On Wednesday 15th, Year 4 will be creating their dreams in a 45-minute lesson through various media. The children have already planned what they would like to do, and they have the option to bring in things from home to help create their dream. For example, they could bring in some magazine pictures of footballers where they can create a collage, or some fabric and fabric pens to show their fashion design vision! You do not need to go out to buy anything for this; some resources will be provided by the school.

Year Six

Mrs Stapleton would like to pass on that she’s had a great week with the Woodpeckers and is very impressed with them. She is looking forward to the rest of the term and year.

Boiler and Heating

We have an engineer coming to look at the boiler on Tuesday. We are hoping for good news and will update to as soon as possible. In the meantime, please continue to send children in the effected classes to school with warm layers.

Call for a Santa

We are looking for a parent to come in and visit our class parties on 19th December from 1pm dressed as Santa. If you would like to do this, please email n.hardingrickards@coldfall.haringey.sch.uk. Santa costume will be provided. Thank you!

Festive events in school

As well as the many shows and performances listed below, we have the following festive events:

· 18th December – Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas lunch. Please bring in £1 for Save the Children and EducAid.

· 19th December - Class parties. Children can come to school dressed in their party clothes. Please note, there is no need to provide any food for the parties.

· 20th December – As it is the last day of term, school will close at 1.30pm. there are no Activity Clubs or Night Owls on this date and you have not been charged for a session.

Raffle Prizes for the Winter Concert - On Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th December will be holding our annual Christmas Concert featuring all children in Year 5 and 6. We will be celebrating Anti-Bullying week from Monday 11th November. The theme this year is Choose Respect and Mr Marshall will lead a whole school assembly on Monday. The children will also be discussing bullying in their PSHE lessons next week and Mr Descrettes and Miss King will be talking about what bullying is (and isn’t) in our Golden Singing Assembles. On Thursday 10th October the children will be going on their school trip to The Verulamium Museum in St Albans. Please ensure children have comfortable footwear, a packed lunch and a suitable jacket with them. Also, if you have not yet made payment for this trip please do so by Monday 7th October.

We are planning to be Romans for a day on Friday 18th October. Children can dress in simple Roman style clothing –these can be made from items at home (t-shirts/sheets), there is no need to buy anything new. Year 1

Please return all school reading books and reading diaries to school on Monday 22^nd July and we will pass them on to your child’s new teacher for September.

Could children bring a bag to school on Monday to take all their work and other items home.

Year 6

Monday- Y6 Football Competition & Bringing home of books

Many of the children have chosen to take part in a football competition on Monday. Please make sure children are in PE kit for this. We will be sending the children’s books home on Monday. Please make sure your child has a bag to put these in. If your child normally cycles to school, please consider whether they will be able to cycle and carry all of their things.

Tuesday- Y6 Science & Water fight

The children will be taking part in a science experiment that could get messy. Please send them in wearing older shoes/ trainers that do not matter if they get soapy and wet. The children will also be allowed to take part in a water fight on the field in the afternoon (this was the prize agreed for completing the Easter Maths revision packs.) Please send the children in with a water gun or a container that they can use to take part with. We will only be able to offer children a plastic cup for this. Please do not send children in with any water balloons as we will not be allowing the children to take part in this.

Wednesday- Leavers T-shirts & Surprise

We will be giving the children some time to sign each other’s T-shirts on Wednesday. We have arranged a surprise for the children on this day which will be best enjoyed by the children if they are in their PE kits. We ask that the children bring in a school t shirt separately for signing.

The Y6 children have been working on an enterprise project in their maths lessons. They will be running a fair during Exhibition Evening from 3:45 - 4:45, offering a wide variety of snacks, drinks, crafts, games and even beauty treatments. The children are all hoping to turn a profit on the investment they were given, so please come along and see what they have to offer.

The Y6 children have plans for what they need to do for their enterprise project stall at exhibition evening. They may need some support in shopping and making for this. Thank you.

Arbor - New Management School System (MIS) - Please download the Arbor App - everyone will need to download the Parent App from Google Play Store on android phones or the Apple Store on iPhones.

To create your account, you just need to set a password. Your username is the email address that you have provided the school with. Go to https://login.arbor.sc and click Forgot your password? to finish setting up your account.

Outstanding Debt

We would like to ask parents to please clear any outstanding debt that they have on Arbor as we are at this time moving to our new MIS, Arbor. In order for the move to go smoothly all debt needs to be cleared from everyone’s Arbor account. If there are any issues, please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Please check you e-mail box /junk/spam for the e-mail that went out on 2^nd July where you received information on how to register to the new Payment System. The new system will have an app that everyone will need to download, as outlined above. Thank you.

Trip to Shaftesbury Theatre, to watch Mrs Doubtfire – Tuesday, 2nd July: The Show starts at 7.30pm; Meeting point is, East Finchley tube station at 6.20pm

We are really excited ahead of our upcoming trip. Please arrange for the children to meet school staff at East Finchley tube station for 6:20pm for a swift 6:30pm departure so we have enough time to get to the theatre and find our seats. Staff will walk from school to the tube station with any children who are in Night Owls that evening. We cannot wait for children who are not on time.
Pick up will be at East Finchley tube station at about 11pm. We will message the class reps when we are leaving the theatre with a more exact time.
Please make sure the children have had dinner before coming to East Finchley. Children attending night owls will be fed their snack, but we advise packing them something extra so that they do not go hungry. Children can bring a small snack and water bottle that fits in their pocket or that can be held easily. We ask that the children wear their school uniform.

Enterprise Project – Year 6 children are currently working on an enterprise project. This week they have come up with a business plan which they will pitch to the ‘Dragons’ on Monday, 1st July. If their pitch is successful, they will be granted a small loan of £5 which they can use to pay for the materials that they will need.

The enterprise fair will then run on Exhibition Evening (Thursday 11th July) from 3:45-4:45pm. This will then allow enough time for the children to show you all of their exhibition Art and Maths Fair projects in the classroom.

There are some children performing in a choir concert, they will finish the Enterprise fair slightly earlier so that they can get to the lower hall.

Please advise your children what to do at the end of the Enterprise Fair, whether to meet you on the school site, walk home or go to night owls. The idea of the enterprise project is to make money from the initial loan given, not for the children to spend their own money or your money, please prevent them from doing so.

If you are happy for the children to borrow reusable items from home e.g. cool bags, then this is OK.

You Tube

There have been some incidents at school this week involving children using racist, homophobic and aggressive language. When looking into these incidents, all the children involved have shared that this language is something they have watched on You Tube. Please see below a couple of links, which give some guidance on how to keep children safe when watching You Tube. Some of the things that children have reported watching are racist jokes, homophobic jokes and slap battles.

We would encourage you to watch You Tube with your child as inappropriate and offensive content can often follow a video which may have been age appropriate.

There is also a You Tube Kids channel which has some restriction on content. Children watching this content and sharing it with others at school is causing real distress to some of our pupils and we would urge you to consider the impact of what your child is watching.

TAD day - Friday, 28th June – School is Closed for children

Weather – as the weather is warming up, please remember to apply sun cream in the morning to your child/children, send them to school with a sun hat and make sure that they bring in a water bottle every day.

School Meals Questionnaire - We would like the children’s feedback on the school meals that we provide.

Year 1 to Year 6 - You will find on your child’s Google Classroom profile a questionnaire regarding school meals that will need to be completed by each child. Children will need to log in to their Google Classroom and complete the questionnaire. Please note that each child will have to complete their own questionnaire. This is a survey for the children and NOT for parents, so please encourage your child to respond themselves.

Y6 Show Tickets

Later this term, you will be invited to buy tickets for Honk! You will initially be invited to buy two tickets, to ensure that nobody misses out on seeing their child perform. After this, the rest of the tickets will go on sale, so that you can buy tickets for siblings, friends and other family members. Though we will not be able to guarantee that everyone will get the number of tickets that they desire, we are hopeful that there will be more than enough space for everyone. Last year’s performances were all very well attended and there were still seats available for each evening.

This Saturday – At Coldfall Primary School

Please come and support us at our Summer Fair on Saturday, 22nd June 2024 from 1.00pm until 4.00pm, kindly organised by Friends of Coldfall. This year’s Summer Fair will also feature the launch of our Sensory Garden.

Sensory Garden Grand Opening

After years of fundraising and months of digging, building, and planting, we are thrilled to announce that this year’s fair will coincide with the grand opening of the Sensory Garden. Wander around the garden and follow the free interactive Sensory Garden Trail to learn more about this exciting project.

Wood carving workshops

The entrance to the sensory garden is going to have a fabulous owl sculpture. The workshops will give your child a chance to make a wooden feather for the owl. These sessions are led by Yes Make who have created the sensory garden. The children will use a special type of saw and sander, then dip their feather in paint, ready to go on the owl sculpture when it's ready.

Workshops are £3 per child and run every 15 minutes throughout the fair. Please only book for children currently at Coldfall School/Nursery. Sessions can be booked online. (A parent must remain with children under 5 years).

Summer Fair – ‘Golden Threads’

One of our ‘Golden Threads’ at Coldfall is to teach our children to be environmentally aware and responsible. Before coming to the Summer fair please talk to your children about putting wrappers, containers etc in the bins. Please model this yourself and don’t leave cans, cups etc on tables or walk past them when you go home. We have a beautiful space to enjoy. Let’s respect it and look after it.

Book Swap: Star Squad will be running a book swap stall at the Summer Fair, if you have any unwanted children’s books, please bring them to school in a bag marked ‘Book Swap’ by 20^th June. There is a box outside the school office for donations. Thank you!

Outstanding debt: We would like to ask parents to please clear any outstanding debt that they have on Arbor as we will be moving to a new payment, database and communications system called Arbor very soon. In order for the move to go smoothly all debt needs to be cleared from everyone’s account on their Arbor application. If there are any issues, please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Medication: We would like to remind parents and carers that any medication that your child needs to take can only be given by staff if it has been prescribed by a doctor. You will also need to completed a medical form at the school office. Please do not give medication directly to the class teachers.

As it is hayfever season at the moment, please be aware that unless the medication is prescribed by a doctor, we will not be able to give this to children (be that eye drops, tablets or syrup). Hayfever medication can be prescribed by your GP.

Leavers (Nursery to Year 5): If you are planning to leave Coldfall Primary school at the end of the school year please do e-mail the school office to let us know. We will need your new address (if applicable) as well as your child’s new school name and address. Thank you to those parents who have already contacted the school office.

Year 6

Homework is continuing to be set for children in Y6. Please make sure that they check Google Classroom for what they need to do. This week, we have asked the children to prepare some research for our upcoming Maths Fair. This can be on any area of mathematics that they find particularly interesting. So that they can get started, it would be great if they could bring their research in on Monday.
