Value of the Month

– Thankfulness

November can be a time when one’s mood dips somewhat. Longer nights, colder weather, illness, coughs and spluttering abound. Perhaps it’s pertinent that this month’s value is Thankfulness as we take the time to look around us and to be grateful for what we have. This can be friends and family, our home comforts, opportunities or the natural world around us. I’m grateful for the autumn sun that splashes on the woodland floor as Lulu, my dog, skips through the trees.

In our assembly about Thankfulness, I spoke with the children about Hurricane Melissa, which has caused devastation in Jamaica and across parts of the Caribbean. My thoughts are with everyone in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean who have been affected by the hurricane, as well as with members of our own community whose loved ones may be impacted.

Events like this remind us to be thankful for the safety, comfort, and resources we have and to show kindness, empathy, and support for others who are facing difficult times.
