Value of the Month

– Empathy

Empathy is:

  • Thinking about how people are feeling.
  • Considering the feelings of other before you act/react.
  • Putting yourself in someone else's shoes and consider how they are feeling and thinking.
  • Being aware of how we might impact the feelings of others.

I feel like empathy is a skill you can grow by ‘slowing down’ your emotions and responses to others. Another way is by talking through and taking responsibility for our actions. This is where the restorative justice approach we use in school can have benefits by encouraging children to think of the impact of their actions on others.
