Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)
At Coldfall Primary School, we believe play has a vital role in children’s health, happiness, and wellbeing. It creates children who are independent, confident, imaginative, adaptable, social, and able to assess risks.
As a school, we endeavour to develop, improve and expand high-quality, sustainable play opportunities for all children. These inclusive opportunities for play are achieved by offering carefully considered outdoor spaces, equipment, and toys that give a rich choice of accessible play experiences for every child. The school is working closely with the award-winning OPAL (Outdoor Play And Learning) organisation to transform the school’s provision. OPAL is the only programme of its kind that has been independently proven to sustainably improve the quality of play in British primary schools.
‘I wanted to formally feedback how deeply impressed I am with the range of play equipment how it provides such an amazing launch pad for imaginative play, developing self-esteem, problem solving and physical confidence. I’m a child psychotherapist and work with children where things have not been ideal - what a therapeutic opportunity OPAL provides for all children. We feel so lucky to be at this school, please extend our huge thanks to everyone involved in making such an impact on all the children’s development for the better.’
